Dr. Hitchon has been fascinated by communication since a small child, when she would wander around the house speaking gobbledygook, imagining what it would be like to speak a foreign language. No wonder she obtained a BA and MA in Modern Languages and Literature at Oxford University in England. Her interests became more applied; how to use communication in a professional context? She earned an MBA and Ph.D in Business at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, before pursuing a career in researching and teaching brand communication. Her research has been published in such notable journals as Communication Theory, Communication Research, Human Communication Research, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Political Communication, and Gender Roles. She has been recognized repeatedly for excellence in teaching. She was elected annually to serve as the Chair of the Department of Life Sciences Communication Version 1.0 (November 1, 2016) at UW-Madison for nine consecutive years, before becoming Head of the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
